Valence House
Client: London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
Goal: Create a compelling experience for all ages within the constraints of a Grade I listed building.
Delivery: Valence House has an exceptionally long history, so we developed a scheme with colour references, fonts and design language that intuitively evoked the different periods for visitors. These translated into an exhibition design where showcases, graphics and objects were integrated into single standalone structures, sitting away from the rooms’ precious panelling.
Result: An instantly appealing museum environment that showcased the house’s rich collection and connected the visitors with the people who had lived there. The museum was awarded Best Regional Museum by the Museums & Heritage Association in 2010.
