The Huguenot Museum
Client: French Hospital
Goal: Create Britain’s first museum dedicated to telling the story of the Huguenot refugees.
Delivery: The influx of thousands of skilled Huguenot craftsmen in the 16th and 17th centuries had an enormous impact on British culture, fashions and economic strength, but is an almost forgotten story. We told this story across the entire visitor experience, from arrival in the car park to their exit through the shop. Strong use of bespoke illustrations allowed us to reduce the amount of text needed to tell a complex story, which was brought up to date with modern comparison and viewpoints. We worked carefully with the French Hospital from the first HLF application through to opening day.
Result: Rochester has a new high-quality and distinctive visitor attraction telling an important part of the national story.
