Client: Pembroke Castle

Goal: Tell one of Wales’ great historical stories in a way that engaged younger visitors and families.

Delivery: We installed a range of new physical, multimedia and digital interpretation (using wide-area Wifi) to explain how the Norman Marcher Lords seized and held south Wales against Welsh princes, Anglo-Norman kings and each other. Media included animated projections, lifesize illustrations of medieval staff who spoke about their lives via visitor smartphones, and a set of tabletop graphics to explain history, castle defence and test visitor’s knowledge about medieval life.

Result: Visitor numbers have increased, with a noticeable surge in school groups who can now spend a whole day exploring the castle’s offer.
