Caledonian Park, Islington, London
In June, Hotrod will complete the preparation of an HLF bid to re-engage the local community with this Park and Clock Tower in north London.
The aim of the project is to encourage more locals to visit the Park and enjoy its history. The Park has seen many uses over the centuries, ranging from 18th century sports ground to cattle market to wartime depot, and is fondly remembered by its long-term residents. However, many of Islington’s non-native born residents know nothing of this background.
Hotrod worked with the Islington Museum and local community groups to identify the storylines that resonated with modern audiences and which could be conveyed using a variety of text-light or text-free media. The final mix of proposals include ambient soundscapes, ‘talking’ historical characters on granite plinths, artist’s impressions of historical views and an ambitious high-resolution ‘gigapixel’ panorama from the top of the Clock Tower.
The project featured extensive collaboration with the architect team as building designs were adapted to meet local concerns. We look forward to a successful HLF application at the end of 2015.
