Raglan Castle in Wales unveiled its new visitor offer
Raglan Castle in Wales unveiled its new visitor offer just before Easter. In place of the old text-heavy interpretation panels, Hotrod Creations have created a three-layer package designed to appeal to different visitor types:
• Attractive new graphic panels explain the purpose of each room and give traditional visitors clues to understand the architecture and decoration. In the two gatehouses the entire rooms have now become a painting, thanks to bespoke murals showing scenes from the castle’s history of expansion and ruin.
• A new suite of digital content sits on Cadw’s new smartphone app (Raglan Castle was one of the first Cadw sites to develop this app layer). The digital element provides multimedia, including historic images, dramatised dialogues and artist’s impressions.
• Eight fantastical interactive contraptions by the castle’s 17th century owner, Edward Somerset (who was also a mad genius inventor) were created and installed. A kids’ trail lets younger visitors crack a code and find out which one of them was really invented.
